20 People in 120m²

Here’s how I had 20 people in a 120m² Crossfit gym and still had free space to use.

With small spaces, there are certain movement combinations that just don’t work. Especially when there are classes large classes of 16-20 people.

I have spent many years coaching in a small Crossfit gyms and have also done the programming, so I have tried and tested a lot of things, and this is what I have learnt.

Here’s how I had 20 people in a 120m² Crossfit gym and still had free space to use.

EXAMPLE 1:

3 Minutes On , 3 Minutes Off x3

6 BB Power Cleans - (60 / 40kg)

12 Burpees

People share a barbell with someone lifting the same weight while alternating between working and resting for 3 minutes. We chose regular Burpees instead of Burpees Over Bar to save space, allowing extra bars if weight differences require them.

EXAMPLE 2:

Every 4 Minutes x6

5 Strict Pull Ups

10 BB Front Squats

20 Alternating V-Ups

Run 2–3 heats with a 1-minute stagger. Members share barbells with others using similar weights, the stagger allows for sharing and any weight changes.

The rig is used for Pull-Ups, Front Squats can start from the floor, and V-Ups can be done away from the barbells.

EXAMPLE 3:

24 Minute Time Cap

4 Rounds

20/16 Calories Cardio Machine

20 Hand Release Push Ups

600m Run

All cardio machines can be used, giving members more options. Run 2 heats with a 2-minute stagger; while some in heat 2 may catch heat 1, spacing naturally occurs, and staggered starts ensure free machines are available when athletes return.

Sharing equipment is one way to create more space, as not every member needs their own piece of kit. This gives space back to the members so they can train safely, rather than feeling like they are on top of each other.

This can also allow for class numbers to be increased if needed.
